10 Ways To Practice Self Love

Happy Monday! I hope you all had an amazing weekend. I went home for a much needed break from school to recharge. Every now and then you have to step back and focus on you. A quote I love says, "Remember to take care of yourself first. You can't pour from an empty quote."  Home cooked meals, laughter with my mother and my cozy room were just what I needed. Now I'm ready to take on a brand new week.

With this is mind, I was reminded of how important it is to practice self love. Taking care of you is far from selfish. You need to make yourself a priority or no one else will. Even if it's a simple act like cooking a hearty breakfast or watching the sunset. You are deserving of all the love you give so freely to everyone else. I hope this list encourages you to love all that are and will become!

How do you practice self love?

Resource Roundup: Free Photoshop Actions

The weekend is finally here and I am back with another resource roundup! I can't even fully express how much I am enjoying this series. It's been a great way to discover awesome design tools while helping out other creatives. This week I'm focusing on Photoshop Actions. I've used quite a few during the past couple months to speed up the editing process. It saves so much times and the quality is still impeccable.

Installing actions are pretty easy and then watch your photos transform and come to life! Have fun testing these out and let me know in the comments, which one is your favorite!

Ways to Stop Replaying Bad Memories

A few days ago my friend read an excerpt from a book by Joel Osteen that discussed the dangers of replaying bad memories. It was exactly what I needed to hear because I've been dealing with it a lot lately. When I feel inadequate or something goes wrong, I begin this negative spiral deep into my thoughts. Bad memories start to resurface and soon the pain does too.

I was stressed to the point where I couldn't sleep and my mind couldn't focus on anything for more than an hour. I suffered with headaches and felt anxious throughout the day.

I'm not sure why I do this, except that I have high expectations of myself and hate letting people down. Even when it's the smallest thing. I've always been the person others depend on and a shoulder to cry on with listening ears. I care a lot about the wellbeing of others to a fault. It's a wonderful trait to have, but a draining one as well.

Now I have a full understanding of how unhealthy this is. The internet, which continues to be a wonderful source for learning, let me in on some tips to break this dangerous habit and start living in the present. If you're struggling with this same issue, I hope you find this list helpful.

1. Be aware- The quicker you recognize you're dwelling in negative memories, the quicker you can address it. Lately I've been catching myself and then asking, "what does this have to do with your life now?" This question puts everything into perspective. Mistakes in the past do not define the person I am now. Only today matters because it's the only thing that's guaranteed.

2. Get busy- While free time is nice, it's also a time where a lot of us sit around and think. That means the good and bad memories. Try to stay busy with things you enjoy. Pick up a good book, listen to uplifting music or look up some creative journal prompts and start writing. I love, you guessed it, blogging and it keeps me focused on something fun and productive.

3. Go for a walk- There's nothing better than being out in the fresh air. I can't wait for spring to come so I can do this more often. The sun naturally makes us feel emotionally better and you're doing something to benefit your physical health. Make a playlist of your favorite songs, put on your sneakers and head outside!

Don't Give Up On Your Dreams, Do This Instead

Well I'm finally back with a blog post and I feel like I have some explaining to do. This past week has been a little hectic, partially because of midterms, but mostly because of procrastination. There wasn't a day that went by where I didn't think about my readers and this space I've come to love so much. So, back to the busy week. I really didn't think I would pull through. I ran out of coffee (I know traumatic) and I've been running on little sleep. Not to mention the weather has been...the weather with lots of clouds and frigid temperatures.

All of this had me feeling incredibly down and then I started to question if anything was ever going to pay off. It can be so hard to keep going when you can't see the benefits. As positive as I try to be, I have moments where I just want to give up. What got me through, besides getting coffee, is taking steps each day to keep my dreams alive. Here's what I like to do, and if you'e feeling down try them out too!

Remember why you started: If you haven't sat down and defined your "why" this is a must. Really think about why you chose that specific path. I'm sure it's an answer that has a significant meaning. Money is cool and clothes are nice, but what impact are you making. What change would you like to see in the world, your family and in yourself? Grab your notebook, a pen and a comfy seat and pour out what this all means in the end. Whenever you feel yourself slipping, grab your notebook to remind yourself that there's a dream to make into a reality!

Get inspired: Adventure is out there, take it from Ellie! No matter where you live there's something to discover. Go to the bookstore, local shops, thrift stores, museums the list goes on. I get sad when people think they have to live in a big city to starting "living" life. Life is amazing when you decide to make it amazing. If you want to be a writer, go listen to lectures or Ted talks. Surround yourself with people and things that align with your dreams to spark new ideas and learn something new.

Be nice to yourself: Yes, you reading this. You saw the title, clicked, so I know you can relate. Stop thinking about everything that could go wrong and talk about everything that will go right! You will have the life of your dreams, you will be successful, and you will make yourself proud! You are an overcomer. Look at all that you been through and you're still standing! Yes, mistakes happen, no one's perfect. Stop beating yourself up. Instead, pick yourself up and start again. Your dreams are counting on you!

Quotes to Inspire Self-Love

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready to have a fulling week. Every week I share quotes to inspire my readers and today I wanted to focus on self love. It's a topic that's been trending for awhile, but so many of us still struggle with this. I have had my own battles with loving myself including: embracing my curls, learning to love my height and so much more.

As girls, we are so hard on ourselves. We strive to be perfect and social media, magazines and advertisements rarely help. The people we surround ourselves with also contribute to how we view our worth. There's nothing worse than having a conversation with someone who's constantly negative and gossiping.

It's time to make steps towards taking back our confidence and self worth. For some that means turning off the tv, writing self affirmations on sticky notes, removing people or quieting negative thoughts. It's a process so expect setbacks. It's natural when you're working on changing a perspective  that's been embedded.  For more inspiration, check out these quotes and share this post for others to see!

Adorable Valentine's Day Gift Guide

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and that means gifts, mushy posts, extravagant evenings, or another reminder of loneliness *looks at self in the mirror.* While I may not be doing anything special, I still love the holiday and what it represents....I just might not be on social media that day.

Until the times comes for me to share my mushy festivities and long gushy status updates, I'm sharing a Valentine's Day themed gift guide. A lot of these items can be purchased on your own because what love is better than self love!

For those of you spending the day without a significant other, I'll have a post on things you can do to keep your spirits up!

Resource Roundup: Free Textures

It's been awhile since I did a resource roundup and thought this would be a nice way to begin the weekend. There are so many talented artists that are gracious enough to share their designs across the internet. Without them I would be lost and putting in three times the amount of work I do now.

You might be able to see a theme here when I put together this roundup. Maybe it's the holiday coming up or because I love all things sweet and pink, but I couldn't resist. Like always, please be sure to read the terms of use when implementing these textures.
