My Favorite Christmas Traditions

The most wonderful time of the year is right around the corner! It's so strange looking outside and seeing Christmas lights, but not a single snowflake in sight.  A huge part of me is happy that I won't have to worry about shoveling or tripping on ice, but it is beautiful to watch the snow falling from inside with the fireplace going.  Christmas is such a warm and loving time and I always look forward to it especially since I live 3 1/2 hours away from my family.

Decorating the Christmas tree- I sadly haven't been able to do this for awhile because our living room doesn't have enough space. Now that our basement is refinished we could, but I don't think that's going to happen. Regardless it's such a fun activity to do with the family. Everyone comes together with decorations adding his/her own personal touch. My favorite moment is when the star is finally put on top and the lights are turned on making the tree sparkle.

Watching holiday movies- Our favorite movie to watch this time of the year is The Grinch. I love the version with Jim Carey. My mom and I probably like it more than anyone else in the house. For the first time this year I watched The Polar Express after I heard so many good things, and not to mention it has been on at least 5 times this month. The animations in this movie are incredible and magical, but it still doesn't beat The Grinch!

Giving gifts- I love giving gifts because not only is it an excuse to shop, but I get to find something for loved ones that I truly believe in. I love seeing their expressions when they open the package and their face is beaming with excitement. There's no better feeling that putting a smile on someone's face.

Christmas dinner- Even though I put this last it might be my favorite one. I'm a foodie and I have no shame! I'm also not much of a cook so this is the time where I get to eat yummy food that I wouldn't be able to cook otherwise! My grandmother makes the best desserts especially sweet potato pie. She's been watching what she eats lately, but I'm gonna talk her into make me some.

This beautiful time of the year has so much to offer and be thankful for. What are some of your favorite traditions? Comment below!

❄Stocking Stuffers❄

I can't believe it's almost December! This year has seriously gone by so fast. Now the holidays are quickly approaching and it's time to start preparing for gift shopping. Although this time of year isn't about the gifts, it is a nice gesture and I love seeing the expressions on people faces when they receive something they love. Stocking stuffers are some of my favorite things to buy. You never know know what's inside regardless of how big it is. I did a little browsing and found these lovely items most people would love to get. They are also pretty affordable so you don't have to break the bank.

Indoor Winter Wonderland Activities

The time has arrived. After being spoiled for weeks with no snow in sight, winter has decided to make her entrance. When I opened the curtains I couldn't believe how much it had already snowed. While winter is not my favorite season it is undeniably beautiful. The snow covering each branch of the tallest trees and creating a thick coat on the ground is an amazing sight to see. Building snow forts, making snow angels, and have snowball fights are some of my favorite memories as a child.
Christmas carols, string lights hanging from everyone's home, hot cocoa, and holiday movies keep me going during this time of the year. I'll share some of my specific favorites once winter is officially here. So when the roads are a bit too slippery and the temperature is below freezing what can one do to stay occupied and haven fun? Here are a few suggestions that I love!

1. Bake some goodies- I was browsing on Pinterest and found this adorable gingerbread head cookie recipe. You can cover them in white frosty and make snowmen, draw silly faces, and add small candy pieces for decoration.

2. Create a sparkly winter painting- If you are into painting or want to give it a try here is a beautiful and sparkly tutorial anyone can do. It's so simple, the entire family including the kids can try and since the process is easy and forgiving. You only need a few materials that are inexpensive.

3. Make pretend snow- Who says you can't enjoy the snow indoors too? To continue with my love for sparkly this recipe will create pretty sparkly snow just using corn starch, shaving cream, peppermint extract and iridescent flakes. the consistency is powdery like snow and you can mold it into snowball just like real snow.

4. Make yummy s'mores- S'mores are perfect anytime of the year. Hang some string lights, light some candles or turn on the fireplace to make the room look cozy. Bath and Body Works has some awesome candles. Sweater weather is my current favorite this season. Grab some blankets, put on your favorite pjs and find a good classic movie. I found this delicious recipe everyone will enjoy!

What are some of you favorite things to do when the cold weather is keeping you inside?

Give me the 90's- TV Edition

This post is dedicated to all my fellow 90's babies. Every year we get a little older and fashion trends change, music evolves, and childhood games just aren't the same. The one thing I miss the most will be the many TV shows that filled me with wonderful memories. These shows touched my heart in a special way. I'll share just a few because I could go on forever if I discussed all of them in depth.

1. Arthur- Every morning before school and right after, this was on my TV. Arthur reminded me of oldest brother and I was unfortunately D.W. (haha)! I loved how their relationship reminded me of our own at that time. Being the youngest and only girl, it's only natural to be a little pesky, right! Mr. Ratburn always creeped me out with his crazy unrealistic demands and his "nutritious" diet of nails for breakfast! I especially loved the episodes where they were more like musicals. Francine was my favorite during those.

2. As Told by Ginger- This show will always have my heart! I know I sound extremely dramatic, but it's so true. So many girls can relate to her. I was shy, raised by a single mother who worked in health care and had a few close friends. The episode "Hello Stranger" discussed her absent father and brought me to tears, but I love how creator's dealt with real life issues. Ginger, like many of us dealt with wanting to be popular, boys, sibling drama, and friendships.

3. Powerpuff Girls- I would still watch this show if it came on. I don't have a sister and want to be a superhero, so I live vicariously through these three. Their personalities are pretty different so most girls can pick one that represents them. My friends and I would debate who was Blossom, Bubbles, or Buttercup. I was always Bubbles! I remember my mother getting me a Bubbles doll when I was a little girl and I cherished it more than any other toy I had. Even though the show featured three girls, boys watched it as well for the crime fighting. I like that stereotypes were challenged in terms of what a girl's role is in society.

Writing this post and drawing these characters really brought me back and gave me a new found appreciation for my childhood.

What are some of your favorite shows? I would love to hear all about it!

5 Favorite Feelings: Fall Edition

1. Cozy sweaters- Fall temperatures can fluctuate from being really cold and needing a jacket to decent enough to wear just a sweater. Those days are perfect. I love being bundled in a warm sweater. It almost feels like wearing a fashionable blanket all day. While sweaters may not seem appealing to some, I love the variety they can come in. From the fabric, texture, design, embellishments, it's all exciting to choose from. I'm seeing more labels are getting creative and adding unique cutouts as well. Not sure if that will keep you warm, especially where I live, but the idea is nice. Over-sized sweaters have to be my favorite. A cute pair of leggings or jeans and a nice pair of boots makes for a simple yet cute outfit.

☼ HOW TO INSTANTLY HAVE A BETTER DAY ☼

Every morning when I wake up I try to only think of positive things that could happen throughout my day. I emphasize the word "try" because it doesn't always happen. Nonetheless, setting this intention to have a brighter day than yesterday is a huge step. Here are a few other tips that will make today better than ever!

1. Open your curtains- This may sound silly, but it's so crucial for me to start my day off right. I love waking up to the sun shining through my windows creating a warm veil throughout the house. Sun also boosts our spirits by increasing serotonin levels.

☆WHY YOU NEED TO MAKE A VISION BOARD☆

Inspiration board:

With summer almost over and all the recent changes that are/will be happening in my life, I decided to sit down and gather my thoughts. Transitions can be difficult but we all go through them. It's apart of life. Writing all my goals and ambitions down is helpful for me to stay on track, but I wanted to step it up a notch creatively so I made myself a vision board. Here's why!

WAYS TO BEAT THE JOB-SEARCH BLUES

Searching for a job can be a tiring experience especially after you’ve heard so many no’s and read countless rejection letters. I have experienced this as well as many others. Trust me we all know hard it can be. I decided that instead of dwelling in negativity, I could use this time to nourish other hobbies, talents, and interests. During moments like this, there is nothing to lose!

FIGHT ON

Over the course of your life you will make mistakes. You will fail, hurt, give up, and basically check
out on life. It happens and it may have happened more than once. But that's just it. It happened. Past tense. You got over it. Even better you BEAT it.What you thought would break you didn't. You woke up this morning and got out of bed to face the world. Maybe a little unwillingly, but nonetheless look at you! You are still here, still fighting. I know the fight is hard. Believe me. There is a greater purpose in all of this. Out of each difficult situation you will come out stronger than before and more prepared for future battles that life may throw your way.

HELPFUL POSTS FOR BLOGGING SUCCESS

When I first began blogging nearly two years ago I didn't have a clue where to start. There are so many wonderful resources available for free that will save you the trouble I went through. Starting a blog seems so simple. Pick a platform, make a design, and start typing! I was definitely in for a shock when I realized how much more work goes into this.  Overtime I started following amazing and successful blogs through bloglovin. Since then I have learned so much, but there's still even more I need to learn before I'm where I want to be.

CURRENTLY

Reading: I recently picked up Always Believe in Yourself and Your Dreams from Barnes and Noble and I love it. It is a compilation of poems and writings to keep you motivated when pursuing your dreams. This is especially great if you're someone on the go since it's an easy read. I highly recommend this to anyone that has goals and dreams but need a little more motivation to keep going.

POST GRADUATION: PART ONE

Summer

Two weeks ago I finally graduated from college with my bachelors degree. Ever since then life has been coming at me faster than ever and sometimes it's difficult to keep up. In less than a month my lease will be ending and I'm currently on the hunt for a job while interning. It's a little stressful at times, but I know it will be worth it in the end.

SUMMER BUCKET LIST

Hello my lovely readers! Summer is here and in full effect. I decided to make a bucket list so I am motivated to embrace every moment before it's sadly gone. This is hands down my favorite season and it always goes by too fast. This bucket list is very simple, but the little things matter a lot to me.

EASY WAYS TO MONETIZE YOUR BLOG

Monetize your blog

It's so crazy to think that in two months my blog will be two years old! There's so much I still need to improve upon but this year I have made a lot of changes. One of my biggest regrets when I started this blog was beginning with zero knowledge..of anything about blogging. I just thought it looked cool and you got to share you thoughts with some pretty pictures. I didn't take into consideration the amount of time and effort that goes into each post. Everything from the layout, general design, and blog platform take so much work. Even taking pictures can be difficult if you don't have decent equipment. Not to mention learning all the legalities of blogging came as a surprise for me.

STYLING DENIM FOR THE SUMMER

Summer time is almost here and I'm super excited! The weather would make you think it's been here which I can appreciate.I love being able to soak up the sun and lay out by the pool. In this post I am showing you all how I style two denim pieces for the summertime. Denim is so versatile and can be worn all year round. Below I am styling high waist denim shorts and a denim jacket. Both pieces are pretty simple to work with. My shorts were originally jeans that I got from the thrift store. All I did was cut them and use tweezers to fray the bottom. You can customize your shorts by adding lace, studs, or even by painting a design on them. I paired it with a crop top, and if you're out late a night this varsity style jacket goes great with it. Add some arm candy to accessorize your outfit.

MAKEUP: ACCESSORY NOT NECESSITY

Hello lovely readers! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend! I know I did. I wanted to share with you my opinion on makeup and how it can be perceived. I personally love makeup. It's cool that you can change up your look slightly or drastically. I wear makeup almost everyday and that's just my personal choice. I usually have on powder foundation instead of liquid since it's so hot, mascara, eyeshadow on my tear ducts for a highlight, and lipgloss. This is a pretty basic routine, but it helps me feel more confident, however I have no problem with my bare face. I don't feel like I have to apply makeup in order to be presentable. Yes makeup can enhance ones appearance, but there's no reason to feel like it's a necessity. You are good enough the way you naturally are. If you do wear makeup, make sure it's only for your own reasons and not to please anyone else.

This brings me to another point. Some individuals assume that if you are wearing makeup especially if you're not going out, it's to impress somebody else. Many women like myself wear it simply because they enjoy it. Nothing else. Whether or not someone is wearing makeup at the mall, grocery store, club, or to take a walk should not make a difference in anyone's life. Everyone should be able to feel and look good without having others make assumptions and insinuate that they have ulterior motives. How much or how little makeup a woman wears does not warrant an explanation.

If you want to wear makeup, wear it, if not don't. There's so much that happens in life and makeup should be the last of anyone's worries.

"Be your own kind of beautiful."

"BELIEVE YOU CAN AND YOU'RE HALFWAY THERE"

Do you ever find that when you're in a crucial situation, you always think of the worst case scenario? I sadly do this from time to time. I later ask myself, "why do you do this?" This only causes pain, reinforces negative thinking, and builds up more barriers to overcoming my fears. Any logical person could see that the obvious solution is to simply stop. Think positive thoughts. Expect the good, not the bad. Yet this is so hard. I think I personally do this because I don't want to get my hopes up only for them to get knocked down. To want something so bad, and see it not come to fruition is so painful, but there is something that's worse. That is always expecting bad things to happen and never having anything to look forward to.

BROWN EYES ARE BEAUTIFUL TOO

Hello lovely readers. Today I wanted to discuss a subject matter that has been on my mind ever since I read this article a couple of days ago. The phenomenon with having blue eyes seems to be increasing. Many people are now willing to go to the extreme of going under the knife to change their eye color. I've got to be honest, when I read articles about this, I can't help but feel bad for those who feel the need to change their appearance so drastically.

INSPIRE DESIGN CREATE

Hello lovelies, and happy Monday! I hope you all have enjoyed your weekend. Lately I've been trying to get back into hobbies I love. Painting is something I love to do, but I'm not very good. Regardless I still have fun and enjoy learning techniques from YouTube. Practice makes perfect right! The best of the best had to start somewhere. Now I don't really have any plans one becoming the next great painter, but it's still relevant when maintaining the spirit of perseverance.

WEEKEND WANDERER

Over the weekend I decided to visit a park located right by my apartment. It's been closed off for months due to the weather, but now since it's finally warm it's open. I love going to new places and exploring, even if it's just a park. You never know what you may discover or who you will meet along the way.

CURRENTLY

Hello loves! The weekend is here and I'm so happy about it! I can't wait to take some time and do more of the things that I love, and just relax. Below are a few things that I've been doing/loving lately and will probably consume my weekend!

Reading: Girl Boss- I FINALLY am reading this book. I just started it, and I can already say that Sophia Amoruso has such an incredible and inspiring story. I'll give a final review once I'm done. This book will hopefully give me the drive I need to pursue my own business ideas in the near future. Even though it's difficult what many successful individuals have gone through in their lives before reaching their goals, it also gives hope to everyone that they can do it too.

Listening too: Rachel Platten- Fight Song- One of my favorite youtubers shared this song on her twitter, and I decided to check it out. That was probably one of the best decisions I made this week! This song is so uplifting and will instantly put you in a good mood. I am careful about what I listen to because it really can alter how you feel. I try to have a positive outlook each and everyday. What you think you become and I feel the same way about what you listen to.

Watching: Married at First Sight- My roommate and I were scrolling through channels trying to find something new to obsess over, and this caught our attention. The premise of the show is exactly what the title states. Two complete strangers meet each other on their wedding day. They go off on their honeymoon, and once they get back, the reality of married life settles. They are matched by experts to people they feel are very compatible.

Loving: Life. It's not perfect...not even close and it never will be, but I'm still here and I understand that not everyone got the chance to see today. One of my goals is to express gratitude even for the little things.

Have a Wonderful Day!

SPARK CEATIVITY

Hello loves! I know I've said this one hundred times, but this year is seriously going by so fast! In less than two months I'll be graduating! One of passions is creating and designing. I plan on incorporating this into my blog along with a few other changes so stay tuned! The creative process is so exhilarating but there are times where I just can't seem to find any inspiration. When this happens there are a few things I turn to that get me motivated to create and design.

APRIL FAVORITES

Hello loves! I haven't done a monthly favorites post in such a long time.On one hand this could mean that I'm not spending money which is great, or nothing has really been appealing that I have bought. As you can see from the picture below I have some variety with my favorites this month. In general you'll rarely find me posting a favorites that's all makeup or all anything for that matter.

MOTIVATION MONDAY

Hello lovelies! I haven't done a Motivation Monday post in awhile so here it is! I've been having some obstacles to overcome...some bigger than others, but nonetheless obstacles. Being resilient is probably one of the most admirable traits I think anyone could have. To have the strength and courage to persevere in times of trouble is amazing. If you look at some of the most successful individuals in this world you can see that it didn't happen overnight or easily. Life isn't easy. It's not all bad though. It seems that when many people set out to do something that's grand, the moment trouble comes they stop. Having this attitude will only lead to failed attempts instead of triumphs.

I have so many goals and dreams that I know I am bound to have some hard times here and there. It's all apart of the journey. That's what makes a success story so great. Yes, it is frustrating, tiring, and it may even seem hopeless, but never stop. Failure is only permanent if you quit. As long as you keep trying, there's always hope and possibilities on the horizon. Don't let moments of failure overshadow how far you have come. There isn't anyone in this entire world that hasn't failed at something, and if there is they haven't tried anything new. Let your failures be your teachers. All the lessons you're learning along the way will make for a better tomorrow.

Hello lovelies! Spring semester is flying by so fast! I cannot believe that it is already April. With that being said I will be starting my internship  very soon. It's the final step for me towards graduation! This has me getting my wardrobe prepared so I can make a great impression each day I am there. You never know, if you put your best foot forward and work hard you could get hired as an employee. These are a few essentials I think every young lady needs and they're super versatile.

TIPS TO NAIL YOUR NEXT JOB INTERVIEW

Hello lovelies! As much as we all dread interviews, they are apart of getting a job and we all have to go through it. Taking time to prepare for your interview among other things is key to getting the job.You also won't feel as nervous as opposed to if you didn't prepare. My last interview was for my internship and even though I was nervous, I was sure that I could answer pretty much any question thrown my way. The interview ended up being really relaxed and I got the position!

COMMON LIES WE ALL TELL

Hello lovely readers! Lets's be honest...we all lie. Yes even the little fibs we tell count! Don't worry no judgement here, because I of course am guilty of this too. It's crazy how some lies become so normalized and accepted. Luckily the lies that tend to be very common aren't generally detrimental. Here are 5 that are super common and I hear (and sometimes tell) all the time.

SUMMER DESTINATION GOALS

It's only been spring for 5 days and it snowed yesterday. What a let down. Nonetheless I'm  trying to stay positive and hope for some warmer weather. Honestly 60 would be nice. This summer is the semester that I graduate and I would love to travel for a couple weeks before going straight into working full-time. That would be such a nice graduation gift to myself. If I could go absolutely anywhere I would go to Spain, London, and Hawaii. Right now I'm going to stick with places that are more realistic for me and my budget. One day though, it will happen!
